5 times black cabs have been used for PR and advertising


The black cab is one of London’s most recognisable icons. There are more than 21,000 London taxis in the capital which travel more than 500 million miles a year. This makes them great for advertising and PR campaigns. In this blog, we are going to look at five effective marketing campaigns which used the London black cab as the centrepiece.

1. American Airlines

American Airlines ran a connected campaign which tracked taxis wrapped in American Airlines livery around London. This data was then used to power a mobile ad strategy which delivered ads to people within the proximity of the taxis. The campaign was extremely successful, increasing the purchasing intent of adults exposed to the strategy by more than 10%.

2. Popchips

When Popchips wanted to increase brand awareness of their low fat snack, they chose London black cabs to help deliver the message. The cabs worked as part of a multi-channel campaign which targeted ABC1 25-44-year-olds in the city. The result of the eight-week campaign was increased familiarity with the brand and an increased likelihood of the targeted audience taking action.

3. Just Eat

When takeaway food delivery company Just Eat wanted to target ABC1 urbanites and serious taste-seekers in the capital, they chose London black cabs to get the message across. The striking fleet of Just Eat liveried taxis helps to keep the brand front of mind during key times of the day. The campaign proved to be so successful that it has been expanded several times and is now a key part of Just Eat’s social awareness platform.

4. Danone

Danone faced several challenges trying to promote its Actimel brand. The main problem identified was that the brand lacked visibility with a more upmarket city-centre audience. To help tackle this, Danone turned to the London taxi. They created a fleet of bright pink and blue liveries which were seen at key times of the day. This was combined with a ‘free rides for a day offer’ which helped to encourage conversations on social media.

5. Yopa

When online estate agent Yopa wanted to increase brand awareness amongst light TV viewers, they created a fleet of Yopa livered London taxis to get the message across. These were seen by the key London target audience, helping to push the brand to the forefront of consumers' minds at key times of the day.
